Shakira destroys Taylor Swift’s record after upgrading world tour from arenas to stadiums

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour broke records left and right after becoming the highest-grossing tour of all time, as well as the first to gross over $1 billion.

But Shakira’s next world tour has already managed to break one of Swift’s Eras Tour records.

The 47-year-old Colombian singer – who was embroiled in a controversy over allegedly unpaid Spanish taxes last year – secured a new record after becoming the first woman to sell out five consecutive shows at the GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City. by Brand.

This breaks the 34-year-old singer’s record of selling out four consecutive shows at the stadium, which was previously known as Foro Sol, on her most recent tour.

The impressive feat could also be an indicator of the intense demand for tickets for Shakira’s upcoming world tour, which has forced her to postpone her North American leg to move arena shows to larger stadiums.

‘Mexico dear, five shows at the GNP Stadium. We broke the record,” wrote Shakira on social media to celebrate the milestone.

Shakira had previously announced just four stadium shows, but added a record-breaking fifth sold-out show in response to extraordinary fan demand.

According to the Estadio GNP Seguros website, the venue – which is the second largest stadium in Mexico City – has capacity for 65,000 people for shows.

“Demand for tickets and more shows has gotten to the point that our tour now requires U.S. stadiums and more dates so I can see as many of you as possible,” Shakira reported on her Instagram Stories on Friday, via Billboard. “As a result, we are elevating my North American tour from arenas to stadiums and the dates will be moved to May 2025, right after my Latin America tour.”

The move initially disappointed some fans who didn’t want to wait to see the popular artist, but now many more fans will have the chance to attend her shows.

Their good fortune contrasts with that of other established artists – including Jennifer Lopez and The Black Keys – who have been forced to cancel or downgrade their tours after failing to attract the same level of interest from fans as in previous years.

Last week, the Latin American star revealed the music video for her single Soltera, and the clip has already garnered an impressive 26 million views as of Monday.

Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour is named after the album of the same name, which she released in March.
